Can You Believe It? — She Labelled Us!!
We have a labeller in our house. Not one of those little plastic gun type things where you press out letters on a strip of sticky tape. Oh no. Our labeller is just over five feet tall and possesses a brain with eyes that see something and figures it should be labelled. There are post-it notes in the strangest places, little sticky labels on switches of printers and computers indicating what direction the switch goes for on and off, labels on jars of home made health concoctions, on shelves to say what goes on the shelf, on the phone, and on and on. There would be more labels but the other people in our family put their foot down and she isn’t allowed to label to her heart’s content. BUT – they let her LABEL ME – BUZZ!!! In fact, she labelled ALL OF US!! Can you believe it?!!! And they let her!
First she bought everyone these little collars like what a dog wears. And me, a cat no less. What were they thinking? At least they took those nasty little bells off the collars before they put them on us. After a few days it happened – we got labelled. And guess what, it turns out it was supposedly all my fault.
You see, I am always buzzing around somewhere. I think the phrase, “Curiosity killed the cat” was first said about one of my great, great, great, great something ancestors. Anyways, our people were planning that trip to Florida this past June/July of 2009 and they figured I just might buzz on out the door one day on the nice lady they had coming in to care for us. Now, I never go far. How can I? They have the front porch fenced in. But, they thought I might get scared and bolt. So, they ordered these fancy red heart tags that came imprinted with vital information about each of us six cats and two dogs. The idea is that if one of us were to wander away from the house then we could be safely returned by some kind soul who might find us. At the very least, the SPCA guy could get us back to our right home.
So, our personalized labels include in big capital letters our first name, then the name of our owner, their house phone number and their cell phone number. They are bright red so that they can be seen right away. I must say, Gracie’s label looks very stunning against her jet black velvety chest – very stylish I would add and she wears it with pride, even though she is about 14 years old and has never so much as worn a collar let alone a label. I personally find mine to be a bit of a nuisance because the tag bangs against stuff that I am not supposed to be into and someone will come running to see what I am up to.
I keep reminding myself that it is because my family loves me that they labelled me. However, I personally think that Sandi and Coby, who have both gotten away from the back yard on occasion are to blame for us getting labelled. Oh well, it really is a great idea, just in case your pet gets out the door because a visitor opens it and lets them out by accident; or there is a house fire and they manage to escape; or they are in a car accident and panic and run away; or are even just walking in a park and the dumb dog runs after a rabbit and gets lost! Oh rats, can you believe it? I just told you to label your pets to keep them safe! Just don’t tell our resident labeller I told you. What IS happening to my mind??!!

That one is so cute about the wake-up kitten. Don’t I know that story!! When I have had a restless night and want to lie in for a while – NO WAY!! Leo is all over me – literally! Sometimes I have cause to be thankful when there is someome coming in the morning and I need to be up and ready! He is better than an alarm clock!
